MY FIRST WEEK AT PREMIER…

MY FIRST WEEK AS AN INTERN

I just completed my first week at Premier as an imaging intern! Here are the highlights!

Meeting the team – Although slightly intimidating, meeting the Premier team made this whole process feel much more real

Shadowing the old intern – Shadowing the old intern for the first two days of this week gave me a glimpse of the work to come, as well as allowed me to learn the basics without the pressure of being solely responsible for the job. My Predecessor was a fine art student looking for work in a gallery, so naturally, our skill sets were varied; these few days working alongside her gave me the opportunity to see what skills and knowledge I have that may not be so prevalent in the creative team! This helped not only reassure my purpose and place here but also allowed me to see where i can focus my energy to help develop the department.

Exploring Central – Finding your place in an already established office ecosystem can be daunting, so during my first week, I focused on having a little me time. During my lunch break, I would explore central and get to know the area where I would be spending most of my time for the next few months – luckily, it’s summer, and the area is great!

A moment of acknowledgement – Starting a new job can be overwhelming, exciting and scary, but it can also be busy; it’s so easy in these moments in life to be always looking forward, always considering the next step and the one beyond that, but this mindset usually leaves us too busy to acknowledge the achievements we have just completed. Stepping foot into the creative world of fashion felt like a scary, exciting adventure that, a few months ago, I would never have dreamed of doing, yet here I am, week one on the job and already forgetting that I had just achieved a big goal of mine. So to combat this, i am taking a moment of acknowledgment, standing complete still and allowing myself for just a second to acknowledge the achievement i have just made – even if i feel silly and uncomfortable doing it.
